Yes! I gave two to one of those mini-libraries you find in the Chi neighborhoods (I had two copies of Marlon Bundo and To Kill a Mockingbird). Fortunately, my local library even has a stand with Banned Books! Love them. I usually check several out during Banned Books Week.
The more educated people are, the less malleable and controllable they are. That's why tyrants fear any source of education aimed at the people they want to rule over - an education they often lack in the first place. We all know the saying "history is written by the victors". Tyrants believe they can make history by rewriting it. And that's also why they never win, because by erasing the lessons of the past they can't predict their own downfall.
With so many books getting banned just because somebody in the book looks at somebody the wrong way, we're lucky there's any books left on the shelves or even libraries to go in. Banned books much like movies in my opinion if you don't like them then don't read them or pick them up. It's not difficult. It always takes a few to ruin it for everybody.
But graphic violence is fine, hmmm. At least in my locality if there is a book you object to, then it is put on a list that your student cannot take it out. But all the other students are still allowed to read the book. This was after a huge pushback by the majority of parents. Hugs and bisous.

@ nakedswimmer - You're absolutely correct and it stuns me! If you're going to allow a book to be banned then the complaint should at least come from someone actually living in that community.

a wise and constructive action
There are 11 people who make their money getting books banned. 60% of book bans from 11 people.
My library also has a lovely banned book stand.
All my best reading is banned books and I read them nude!
