Channel-surfing yesterday, we landed on Midsommer Murders (?) on PBS. In the episode, a "historical romance writer's" publisher wants her to write more contemporary stuff. "They want more smut," she says, and she's just not down with it.
My friend who encouraged me to try my hand at writing smut has been researching publishers and sent along a couple of suggestions for submissions since his turned me down. I think he feels really bad about it. And I can't seem to get enthusiastic.
For some reason, I can't get enthusiastic about anything.
Today, my attitude seems to be: "Meh."
Maybe I'm tired of waiting for Summer.

I think it's part of your "dues payment" to have a collection of rejection slips from assorted publishers!
As far as feeling "meh," it goes with the territory. The Muses don't work on a schedule; you have to write when they deign to dribble inspiration on your gonads!

I don't think you should give up. Creative people don't always take negative or feedback good and it gets us down. We must carry one. I think maybe you just didn't find the right publisher yet. But remember some revisions will always have to be made.

About writing: don't get discouraged. The tearing apart of a manuscript is a natural process of being published. What's cool is that they do see potential. I would barge ahead and get it done. Also, I want to read what comes out of your mind.

Write it off as Monday blues... then get to work. You want to be a writer... write. Period. That's how it works. Keep peddlin' skippy... that hill is mighty steep, but well worth the effort.
