It Ain't Funny

Morning

"How can some guys be so stupid about their dicks? Laugh, joke, take dick pics and then something is wrong and they get afraid to go get it checked out. A bud waited so long to go to an ER his dick is permanently damaged as in no more boners again ever. Would you please warn your readers about this cuz it ain't funny."

You're right, it's not funny at all.

According to the NIH: There happen to be different types of Priapism: Ischemic, Nonischemic, and Stuttering(the type Napoleon reportedly dealt with). All can cause problems if left untreated. And all come with severe pain - particularly the Ischemic.

  • Ischemic (Low-flow) Priapism: This is the most common, painful, and dangerous type. It is caused by trapped, oxygen-deprived blood. It is a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment to prevent damage.
  • Nonischemic (High-flow) Priapism: Often caused by trauma, this is less likely to be an immediate emergency, but still requires prompt medical evaluation.
  • Stuttering Priapism: Recurrent, temporary, but painful episodes often associated with sickle cell disease.

NIH says:

If an erection lasts longer than 4 hours, get thee to an Emergency Room. After 4 - 6 hours tissue damage begins to occur. Things like Permanent ED, Tissue Damage and Fibrosis which is scarring and death of the smooth-muscle tissue, Deformity and Shortening.

However, if you have sickle cell: Get to an ER after 1 hour.

Depending on the severity, treatment can range from a simple injection of phenylephrine to draining the sludgy blood with a syringe to surgical shunts (last resort) which reroute the blood flow (the severity of which can be as simple as a needle to removing a portion of the Tunica.

Bottom line: Don't take unneeded --- or overdose on --- boner meds (the most common cause), and don't wear a shaft-only cock ring longer than 30 minutes. If you have an erection that will not resolve, get to an ER.

You get one cock to last you a lifetime.

Treat it with respect.

The Perpetual Boner

The Super Boner - the one you thought you'd stroked into submission but it stayed hard asking for more - should not be confused with the literal perpetual boner - the one which doesn't subside at all no matter what you do to relieve it.

"mine has been hard for days now. i jack it and it stays as stiff as ever."

While we may joke about the perpetual boner, what you describe is called Priapism. And that is a medical issue. You may have some type of infection provoking the erection.

Those can actually become painful.

Really, go see your doctor.

Health Is Foremost

Every once in a while I get an email taking me to task and posing questions about a post. I appreciate them as much as the praise, and try my best to ensure my readers get the whole story. Health is foremost. Always.
Faithful reader moochie has concerns about the Sound Wave therapy. He's done his research, and his points are valid. Educate yourself before running off to the
nearest clinic.

Note: I've truncated his email to what I hope are the major points.
"I take exception to your declaration that sound therapy is safe and with no effects in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
I read the Mens Health article and delved deeply into this therapy regime and found that the sound wave equipment is NOT FDA approved for use in erectile dysfunction (ED). [This is considered using a medication or therapy "off-brand" and that should always be a consideration.] .... One such person offering these services near me claims to be an MD but has no license nor is he registered anywhere as being an MD. Then is there a possibility of a blood clot as a result of the sound waves(?) Should men on blood thinners be permitted to undergo this treatment? Heart conditions? High or low Blood pressure patients? ... Further research showed this treatment has to be repeated, it does not permanently resolve the issue in one treatment. What is the effect over a prolonged period?"

Faithful Reader, and fellow blogger, SickoRicko, wondered about the possibility of priapism.
Priapism is what the boner pill advertisements are warning about when they say, "If you experience an erection lasting longer than four hours, seek immediate medial attention...."
Because it can do permanent damage to your cock. And we want your cock to remain healthy

and functioning.

Have a terrific weekend.

Priapism Redefined

Two comment/questions from a reader last week on Morning Wood and Peeing, prompt today's post.
He posted:  "I always wished we had a urinal in the bathroom. Just for morning wood. (Mine is often priapism.) Big dick plus strong, often painful erection equals heroic effort just to relieve yourself."

I responded: "@ Anon - Painful morning boners? How long do they last?? Do they soften once you've started to pee?"

He replied: "The pain can last up to 20 minutes. It seems to be just priapism, though: It feels like my penis is about to burst."

Recently Priapism has been redefined (simply) as "a persistent and painful erection of the penis."
According to an October 12, 2018, article from the Mayo Clinic, "Priapism is a prolonged erection of the penis. The persistent erection continues hours beyond or isn't caused by sexual stimulation. Priapism is usually painful. Although priapism is an uncommon condition overall, it occurs commonly in certain groups, such as people who have sickle cell anemia."

It's been redefined because it appears there are three types of Priapism: Ischemic (low blood flow), non-ischemic (high blood flow), and recurrent ischemic (intermittent blood flow). Ischemic is the painful one because blood is trapped in the Cavernosum. This type can last for hours and is usually considered a medical emergency if it persists for longer than four hours.

Since yours last approximately 20 minutes, these are most likely non-ischemic and related to the fullness of your bladder when you wake in the morning.

It's also worth noting that the harder the cock, the more sensitive it is. Thus, even insignificant stimulation can extend the time a boner sticks around; clothing (which I hope you aren't wearing to sleep!) or bed linens contribute to the hardness.

Recurrent might be categorized as those boners that do soften up a tiny bit but then come roaring back. It's what we might call a Super Boner; a hard-on that can remain long enough after we cum enabling us to cum again.
With these, and the non-ischemic - though they may be painful - the cock is getting a needed fresh supply of oxygen-rich blood to keep the tissue healthy.
