ED Use v Adornment

Cock only on the Left; Whole package on the Right
A few comments on the wearing of cock rings leads me to revisit the issue. There are two types: One which was initially designed to work with Vacuum Pumps for men with Erectile Dysfunction (ED). This type encircles the base of the cock - it is tight and blocks the blood from leaving the Corpus Cavernosae. It is dangerous to leave this type in place for longer than 30 minutes. (I'll spare you the gruesome photos.) As Faithful reader Jean indicated in her comment:

"...The biggest risk associated with using a penis ring is causing permanent damage to the penis – when wearing a penis ring you should remove it if you feel:

Pain
Swelling
Numbness
Pins and needles
You shouldn’t wear a penis ring for longer than 30 minutes at a time – you should also make sure the ring is well fitted but if at any time it becomes difficult to remove you should go straight to A and E to seek medical attention.

If it takes a long time to remove the penis ring, then you are at risk of gangrene. A condition where the blood supply is cut off and the tissue which makes up the penis are starved of oxygen and dies off. ...
"

The second type encircles the whole package (cock and balls). This type will assist in hardness, but it allows for the exchange of Oxygenated blood to the tissues of the cock. This is the type that men use as adornment, as well as lifting everything forward.

However, as Jean pointed out, it needs to be properly sized and if you can't seem to remove it and begin to experience any of the symptoms mentioned in her comment, head to an ER immediately.
On another note, but related to ED, a friend is going in for prostate removal. Initial indications earlier in the year suggested "watchful waiting." The latest Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) both indicated the tumor had grown significantly.

Upon the point of surgical decision, he successfully argued with his wife that they should have as much sex as possible because "after the surgery, my dick will never get hard again."

Guys, if you face this crossroads, do your utmost to ensure you have a Urological Surgeon who has successfully done prostatectomy without damage to the central nerve bundle. If your surgeon knows what he's doing, the chances for a complete recover (read: ability to get erections) are very good.

Plus, apparently, the Gainswave Sonic Wave technology, the latest in ED treatment, is FDA approved and really works to restore the ability to get boners. (Read a firsthand report by Ben Greenfield at Men's Health.) This is something I may look into myself. My question for them is whether it can succeed in overriding the Muscular Dystrophy.

Ischemic ED

You've read my warning "boners are an indication of your overall health."
A comment from a Faithful Reader warns about Ischemic Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Ischemic; from Greek, meaning "dam."
"Ischemic disorders are characterized by blockages of blood. Having one can actually indicate greater risk of developing another - such as heart attack or stroke."
ED is typically a result of lack of blood flow to the penis. So, what the reader is pointing out is that it is possible to have a blockage within the arteries somewhere along the shaft. This is one very real reason to seek out medical attention if you're having trouble getting good, healthy boners. International Society for Sexual Medicine has a pretty good article regarding Ischemic Heart Disease and boners.
Bear in mind that self-medicating is never a good idea. Don't try masking the problem with cock rings, or other self-remedies,

until you've firmly established the reason behind your inability to get a hard-on.
Listen to your body. Your boners

- or lack thereof -
are telling you something.

Priapus Shots?

I'm running late :-D .... An awful lot going on this week. But, this question was posed via email:

"Had a question for you and your readers. There is treatment that is being touted as a treatment for ED, the P-Shot (Priapus Shot). Was wondering if you or your readers had any experience or knowledge of the procedure and/or experience. As a mid-40's male, I noticed erections not as strong and fading quicker. Viagra/Cialis do work, but with all the usual mild side effects and hassles. The physician I see has trained under the inventor, a Dr. Runnels. The procedure injects platelet rich plasma (PRP) into the penis in several points along the length and tip. It is claimed to treat ED for up to 18 months and improve sensation. It is used along with pumping to help re-vascularize the corpus cavernosum to improve overall rigidity. There is a lot of research of this treatment modality for other areas, but seems pretty new to this application. Appreciate any information or opinions you or your readers may have.  -A"

IF the testosterone levels are normal and there is still an issue with getting hard.... Off the top of my head, it sounds as if this is meant to get more oxygen to the area. Injected platelets and plasma should be safe enough if it is your own - and over time will be absorbed into the body. But, the word "priapus" concerns me, because that intimates the cock will be hard longer than is healthy.

Boners are important to a man's overall health. If you can find something safe - key word being safe - and effective, go for it.

If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated! In the meantime, I'll see what I can dig up.

The Uncooperative Cock

A Faithful Reader from Germany asks if I might address an issue many older men face: The uncooperative cock.
2
It's a well-known fact that, as we age, it takes more stimulation for a longer period of time to get an erection strong enough for penetrative sex. We may get a boner hard enough to stroke out a load - though it may not be as satisfactory as when we were young and horny.
3

4
It is a matter of blood flow to the cock. We get it to flow in - but keeping it there is another matter.
5
Our friend from Germany suggests - and rightly so - that, before we resort to chemicals, we give the Vacuum Erection System a try. In the old days, doctors recommended this FDA-approved solution to their male patients who suffered from Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

The vacuum pump comes with a constrictor ring, which is placed around the very base of the pump. Once a fully hard erection is attained with the pump, the ring is slipped down onto the base of the penis to maintain the hardness.
The man then has 30 minutes to achieve an ejaculation and remove the ring, or face permanent damage to penile tissue.

7
You can still find these kits in pharmacies. They are available Over-the-Counter. Of course, most men are way too embarrassed to walk in and purchase them. The internet now provides an alternate way to get one. And many guys buy them just to have fun.
8

9

10
Some buy them in an attempt to enlarge their cock.
11

If you're going to use one of these - whether it is to assist with ED or just for fun - don't misuse it. You've got one cock, guys,
12
13
and you don't want to lose it because you were careless with a toy.
