The sex recession has been on many a mind lately, as evidenced by another article. This one in Medium. Interesting to think about. Is there really a sexual recession? If there is, why?
According to the article, there has been a decrease in partner sex, and the reasons make sense. Single folks have less sex than partnered people and the subsequent rise in masturbation isn't counted as "sex."
We're remaining single longer; witness the rise in young adults still living with parents. How easy is it to bring someone home for a good romp in the hay when mom and dad are in the next room?
But, author Jessica Valenti believes the lower rates of partnered sex can be at least partially attributed to the rise of women's roles in society and their confidence in being able to say "No." But it's also worth noting that she points out that there's something more sinister going on connected to the political climate.
"Take the current panic around women’s fertility rates in the U.S., for example. Earlier this year the New York Times ran a piece claiming that American women were having fewer children than they would like. Buried in the piece was a clue that the worry was less about caring for women and more about ideology with one line noting how some consider emergency contraception to be an abortifacient. It turns out the piece was authored by a speechwriter for Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee, an anti-choice politician."
So, the political engines are stoking the coal bins to full steam ahead to promote their agenda to put things right. To wit: Tumblr has announced that as of December 17 they will begin shutting down any blog with "adult content." If you recall, Blogger made that same statement several years ago. We shall see what happens with Tumblr.
The decline in "sex" is minimal as Jessica states, "The truth is that Americans having slightly less sex is nothing to worry about. People are still having fun, living their lives, finding partners, and having babies — when they want to. I’ll take more freedom over more sex any day."
We can only hope those freedoms aren't slowly stripped away.

I'm so horny, so I can't imagine to imagine any recession!
You wouldn’t think anything could distract from having sex but I suspect there are just too many. Remember the days when there were all those blackouts, and nine months later all the babies would start coming? People had sex because they had nothing else to do. Now with Netflix, the Internet, etc. there are plenty of distractions. People are holding more jobs too, the husband and wife both work & that wasn’t the case 50 years ago. Partners both work some more than one job. Lots to think about.

Seems like everything is going backwards these das instead of forward. I can't complain with the sex I get.
Whenever governments get involved with these kinds of things and play the children card with their reasoning dont be fooled. All they care about is birth rate. When the birth rate drops the government hits the panic button; they wont be getting as much money coming in especially when the birth rate is either slightly higher or at the same as the death rate.
Some countries are in difficult positions where another value comes in with retirement. Japan, Australia, China, South Korea are heading into this area where large amounts of the population are entering their retirements but the younger age demographics birth rates dont make up the difference. China and Japan relaxed their 1child policies. Australia for a while were paying people to have kids (the Baby Bonus), South Korea is encouraging women to have children and businesses to be more child friendly for their workers.
The headlines of sex recession is just people hitting the panic button so the fertile ones get out there and keep that production line running.
These people in the media need to sift through the bullshit; government wants those dollars coming in through tax like clockwork. They dont care how/where/when you are having sex. They want their birth rates up. Wouldnt be surprised if governments put through legislation that heavily subsidize IVF/adoptions and the like just to get that birth rate up.

Japan never had a one-child policy. That was just China. That, and Mao killing 100 million Chinese, should end any desire to ever imitate China. And give us a "could be worse than Trump" vibe. (Seriously, the people I met campaigning for Clinton disturbed me. I wonder if that's how Republicans felt in 1964?)
