Since We're on the Topic

It appears Dorian will skirt along the east coast - but may hit the barrier islands of the Carolina's. Stay safe everyone!
Since we're on the topic of nudity...Faithful Reader Jean has sent this article from the NY Times (9 free articles each month), "A Very German Idea of Freedom," detailing the nudist attitude in Germany.
While there are nudist camps and beaches around the globe, journalist Katrin Bennhold discovered that the nudist lifestyle originated as a form of rebellion more than 100 years ago. They're still at it today.

In Germany, one can experience nudity pretty much in all aspects of life. The Tiergarten, Berlin's equivalent to New York's Central Park, is filled with nudists relaxing in the sun. As Michael Adamski, a Berlin police officer put it, "Nudity is a great leveler," after encountering his boss at a nudist camp.

Our own former US Ambassador, John C. Kornblum learned first hand about German's proclivity. “It’s all about freedom." He's lived there on and off since the 1960s, and was once shouted at by a naked German for not taking off his swimming shorts in a whirlpool.
"...as Stefan Wolle put it: “It’s the most unerotic thing in the world.” Mr. Wolle helped curate an installation about nudism at the D.D.R. Museum in Berlin, which features exhibitions about life under Communism in the Deutsche Demokratische Republik, as East Germany was known."

We're inundated with images through advertising, films, televsion, and porn; all pretty much trying to convince us in a subtle way that if we only did "x" or bought and used "x" we'd look like that. But Bennhold said her husband hit the truth of it when he remarked during a sauna, "There's no such thing as a perfect body."

Remember that the next time you find yourself afraid to get naked in front of other people, whether at a beach or in the locker room at your local gym.

Yep, we have a storm watch for Thursday and Friday. I have filled the gas tank up. Being on city water, that should not be an issue. But we can get fairly long periods of no electricity if a lot of trees come down. (6-8 days). I’ll buy the things that are indispensable like chocolate on Thursday. Too early and it will be gone by Thursday! Hugs and bisous.

Very late to this party. Never managed to get to the Tiergarten the last time we were in Berlin, but I took full advantage of the FKK spirit in the spa section of our hotel, and even swam a few (probably illicit) laps in the pool in the altogether. No warnings, just a pleasant greeting from the young lady who traversed the pool area when I was in it. Hope to get back to Germany before the culture changes.
