Revisit the Classics

If you've been reading here for any length of time, you know I am a voracious reader. My reading list is quite eclectic; everything from non-fiction memoir to fantasy.

And, of course, there's always smut.

But, as fellow blogger Sixpence has noted on his blog today, we are midway into Banned Book Week.

And to make things more difficult supply-chain issues are impeding publishers in getting printed books to stores.

If you can't find the ones that made the list,

it might be a good time to revisit some of the classics that have been banned at some point over the years.

And buy from a local, independent bookseller if you can.

Sometimes, publishers will sell directly from their own websites.

And most everything is now available as an e-book.

Awww
*smooches!*
Yes, reading is fundamental! And people have no idea that some books we read in high school are indeed 'banned'. It's flabbergasting that in 2021 people are going all Fahrenheit 451 on us.

XOXO

Reading is a sport with all these pages to be turned one by one. We must be urging that it is admitted to the Olympic Games.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.

I will never understand the banning on any tv show, movie or books that have been out and around for years. Why don't we just ban everything now and just be done with it!!!!!!!!! Such privileged and soft skinned people these days.

And worry not about me buying books online. Have yet to do an E-book...and I only ever get my books from a small book shop in the gayborhood of Philly.

And as you know Ill die before I use amazon.

It would be interesting to know how the reasons have changed through the decades. It used to be sex and nudity and it is apparently very different now. It never seems to be hate and violence though.
Hugs and Bisous.

I adore reading. I typically have two books going at once. Not surprised to see that LGBTQ+ leads the list of reasons a book is found objectionable. A lot of people still think we should not exist at all. That's why we all must do our part... read books. Write books. How's yours coming along, dear? We'd love to know... kizzes.

@ Upton - Mine is sitting here doing nothing, really. My wife and I were just discussing that last night, wondering how I might proceed with it.

Never done that except on a laptop with my member in my hand. And why not!! Just another part of being what we are, naked and human.

Fahrenheit 451 was bitching about television.

What I find funny is Chuck Dixon lamenting the end of the Comics Code (which TBH no one has given a damn about for fifty years) over the third Robin (Nobody asks actual creator Marv Wolfman...) having a boyfriend. He never put sex in his stories, except when the same dude's girlfriend wanted to sleep with him (and they were both 14), he had another girlfriend at the same time who was pregnant, the original Robin, now called Nightwing (and it's amazingly a Superman reference, also some by Wolfman), went through two-thirds of the Birds of Prey, and his entire life was retcon'd for this long romance with the former Batgirl (who is like, a decade older than him, and when I say his entire life, I mean going back to shortly after he became Robin). He's never complained about Tarantula, that silly spy series Grayson, or anything by Scott Lobdell.

I bring this up, Chuck, because I want to know where exactly you draw the line. Boys holding hands?
