Remain Vigilant

October 11 is Coming Out Day, and marks the second LGBTQ march on Washington, D.C.

It's never an easy thing to do. And, given the growing climate in the "land of the free," it's getting more worrisome when considering the amount of legislation proposed in so many states.

And the number signed into law.

Florida led the way with the Don't Say Gay bill meant to prevent people from being genuine. Coming out helps others know they are not alone.

I'm happy to say that not a single piece of anti-gay legislation has been introduced here. But make no mistake, it is still a fight as more and more extremists register to run for public office.

Whether LGBTQ+ or Ally we must remain vigilant.

It's rather scary how in 2022 the number practically doubled in 2023. We're definitely having an uphill flight once again. And as I said on someone else's blog it's going to take a long time to change, especially when you look at our Black Folk and they're still not even accepted in some areas and face prejudiced. And how many years later is this?

@ Rick - You're welcome.

@ Maddie - Hundreds. Every time i think progress has been made we all get sent backward.

@ William - You're welcome. I try, anyway.

Historicaly in USA since the 80's the LGBTQ rights are in balance and never set in concrete because of which party is in power on states or federal governments.

The grip of the Evangelicals on the GOP is one of the main obstacle to take forward those human rights. I always said that it's a «cha-cha» dance in USA.

Excluding Christian Church from all levels of government powers would be a first step to make it easier to go foward for ANY rights in USA.

What we did in Canada in 1983 when we renewed our Constitution adding to it the «Canadian Charter of Rights and Liberty». In the first sentence it says that ALL Canadians are born equal and are granted of ALL freedoms.

P. Elliot Trudeau years before he did this he said that the state have nothing to do in anyone's bedroomw.

Sure it's not easy to do a coming out but here it's no more a big issue.

2023 has seen and incredible increase in homophobic bills. The religious wrong and the MAGAts are breaking havoc in our rights.

XOXO

Whoever you are, if you're viewing this blog, this is your moment. It may seem daunting, overwhelming, impossible. Yes, it is. You need to know the power is inside you to make this proclamation of your personal freedom. If you're young, you'll quickly learn who are your advocates and who are your detractors. Don't wait until you're 70 to do this, don't worry about bringing shame and pain to your family and friends, some will understand everything, some you will lose. This is your future, live it for yourself and be filled with the knowledge that there are millions like you and we stand with you in this decision. You are a creation of many talents, develop them, share them with your world, achieve your excellence. It's all waiting for you.

The secret is to show up and vote. Not just the Federal elections for president, but state legislatures. Every 10 years we take a census and reconfigure the House districts. Republicans have been very wise to show up and vote in those States elections in years past. If you miss it as in 2020, there’s not another opportunity for 10 years. If you’re not voting every election, then nothing will change. Hugs and bisous.

@ JiEL - We are supposed to have those same edicts. But the GOP keeps finding ways around them --- like putting evangelicals on the Supreme Court and local school boards. And taking money from the gun lobby.

@ Jean - Exactly!

The black and white photo where the young explorer in profile opens his boyfriend's fly to extract his treasure is simply magnificent. Thank you for this gift.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.
Have a no less magnificent day.

That is one of your issue hat religion and partisan nominations are still getting power over the population's will.

We here in Canada have NO partisanship on any of our justices court and in our Suprem Court of Canada, they aren't nominated on a life time term but have to resign at 75yo.

Religion is no more of any influence on our governements since the 60's which did help us to be free from their non sense beliefs.

currently it seems that we are taking steps backwards, in Italy and in Europe. Homophobia doesn't seem to be receding
