A Faithful Reader emailed to ask about pre-ejaculate, or commonly called pre-cum.

Pre-cum is produced by two tiny glands positioned next to the prostate. The purpose of this fluid is to change the pH balance within the urethra, reducing the amount of residual acidity from urine that may still be lurking. It also helps to lubricate the walls of said urethra to assist the exit of semen. And, yes, straight dudes, pre-cum can have motile sperm in it, so be cautious with this stuff if you are attempting to avoid pregnancy.

The amount we produce varies greatly from man to man. Some guys produce buckets of it, some very little, some dudes have no visible evidence at all.

This stuff adds great fun to cock play. It's nature's male lube.

It's suggested that we can control the production. Well, sort of. You can certainly dry it up - and that isn't a good idea, really. Though I recognize that some men find it embarrassing to have that wet spot on their pants.

And a man does not need to have a boner for pre-cum to start oozing.

Taking any type of OTC cold medicine, such as Benadryl, will dry up any mucus-like fluids. Just as it will decrease the amount of semen when you cum, it will decrease the pre-cum.

To increase it isn't so easy. Though the size of the glands is the biggest factor, manual manipulation may help. Pygeum is suggested as a possible way but there have been no studies to prove the theory (that I could find).
