New Year, Same Old-Time Religion Crap

A newspaper report on a man in Kingman, Arizona sentenced to 3 years probation and 150 hours of community service for skinny-dipping near Lake Havasu last summer baffles me. Of course, a police officer and his family were nearby, witnessed him standing knee-deep in the water, became “offended” and he was arrested.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how anyone could be offended by the appendage of the male human body which is responsible for every single one of us being in existence. How can anyone use said appendage – or make use of one – and yet be offended by the sight?

What is it people find offensive about it? The people who seem to be the most verbal in voicing their displeasure over the naked body are religious folks; the ones who go to church and listen to the person in the pulpit tell them “man is made in His image.” Yet, when they see it, they are offended. (Then wouldn't it follow they are offended by the image of their God?) If these folks are so affronted by a naked man, why do they engage in sexual activity? That certainly requires said exposure.

A friend of mine whose daughter is a very vocal “born-again Christian” just became a grandmother for the first time – her unmarried son got his girlfriend pregnant (the young girl’s second child out of wedlock by the way and by a different man, of course). You would think the new grandmother would be appalled by this – but, nope; she couldn’t be more proud. This woman is constantly spouting her religious views and how horrible, how wicked and immoral it is to be having sex outside of marriage, for people to expose their naked bodies, and, of course, how gays are godless, evil creatures who don’t have the right to exist.

I can’t stand the hypocrisy of it, which is why I left organized religion years ago.

I fantasize that in Heaven – or whatever afterlife there is – everyone is butt-naked and all of the religious nut-cases are finally faced with the truth: The penis is [one of] the most miraculous creations in all of nature; beautiful in all its forms and nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed by.

Might I hear an "Amen" brothers and sisters?

A great write-up on the beauty of the male organ, supported by exquisite pictures. The funny thing about this nakedness thing is that it seems to be mainly North American, in Europe on the whole, and certainly in the UK, nakedness is not a crime. They have had protest rides through the heart of London by naked cyclists, with the full protection of the police! In Italy nakedness at the beach seems to be normal, even with kids around.

In Australia one can still be arrested for "Indecent Exposure", though it is not very common. Most such arrests recently have been drunken football players pissing in public!!!!! We have our clothes optional beaches, which are frequented. Certainly in eastern Europe one sees people sitting naked in the sun during their lunch-break from the office! Some absolutely glorious images of LORD COCK today!

AMEN!

I also exited organized religion quite a few years ago when I discovered it was only dogma, no compassion. I take glee in making fun of crap from the bible, e.g. the ten commandments:

1. I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have strange gods before me.

Sounds like a bad case of professional jealousy to me. Not to mention
that this is a grossly immoral statement, since it has been used for
hundreds of years to justify genocide against native peoples.

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

Spiritual maturity requires it. Only people who have had something
really, really bad happen to them understand why.

3. Remember thou keep holy the sabbath day.

Be glad to if God would make it possible for me to earn a decent living
in 40 hours per week.

4. Honor thy father and thy mother.

After years of being beat to pulp with a belt, and being subjected to
gross emotional abuse, I should honor them? I don't think so.

5. Thou shalt not kill.

Which is why conservative Christians say capital punishment is OK,
because hypocrisy is too.

6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

So because the spouse is permanently ill, or has lost all interest in
sex, or can't stand me but we're staying together for the sake of the
kids, I should give up one of the *few* real pleasures of life, for the
rest of my life? Isn't going to happen.
Small people always think "sex" when they hear the word "morality".
The rest of us have gone onto important things.

7. Thou shalt not steal.

I have to assume that people who have never heard of Robin Hood are
either developmentally disabled, or don't have a social conscience.
The problem here is that most of us don't have the guts to steal from
the people who truly deserve it.

8. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Whatever happened to "an eye for an eye"?

9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife.

Fortunately I don't have to, since she turns my stomach.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods.

Except when, of course, the neighbor is a strutting braggart who
invented the concept of "keeping up with the Joneses".

@ Eddie - thank you for that "Amen!"

@ Westernstock - Yeah - as the old saying goes: "Only in America." And a damn shame, too.

@ Lord Patrick - The nude beach here generally is not bothered by the park rangers... and it's too much trouble to get to for the regular police force. But wouldn't it be great if nobody ever had to worry about being nude. After all, early man used "clothing" only to protect himself from the elements, not to hide things. Hiding one's assets seems to be a relatively new (in terms of geological age) thing and brought to us by religion.

Amen it's not other people naked that offend me it's my ownself me naked is a scary sight trust me but i have no problem with nudity which is a good thing since my son hates wearing clothes.

@ becca - Your son is responding to the natural course of things. Clothing was intended to protect us from the elements, not from each other's eyesight. I hope you will encourage him to remain free of shame and embarrassment.

I feel that the less I wear the less I have to wash. And I agree with becca, it's not others nudity I don't like but my own, so I just never look down or in a mirror! Although you give me few margaritas and..well...never mind about that.

With the amount of bad people out there I understand a when a parent feels the need to shelter their children as far a viewing others not of their gender & age group naked. However that doesn't mean that the same parents shouldn't teach their children that there is no shame in nudity. Nudity is not a perversion, it's just the human form sans clothes. The perversion comes in when people do bad things with nudity. That's for another day though.

Great post as always.

@ CoreyJo - Good point. I'd have to say, I'd be the first on the phone if a guy was waving a boner in a child's face - or whacking off with young kids around. But plain old wading around, or lying on the beach with a limp dick, I don't think I'd be worried about it the way so many folks seem to.
