Leaving tomorrow to take another caravan load of things for our summer picnic. The theme is Pompeii's annuel Mt. Vesuvius Day. Were telling everyone the ash from the Canadian fires is really from Mt. Vesuvius. Nothing to worry about.
Looking back to yesterday's comments about Age of Consent (sounds like a museum exhibit)... . We get very squeamish when talking about someone older educating someone younger in how their body works. So fathers (usually) don't get involved. If a young man has an older brother, the elder is 'in charge' of revealing the Great Mysteries of Masturbation. Sometimes. . In late grade school (it was 6-7-8th grade) we saw a movie about 'reproduction,' with Q&A afterwards. Boys and girls separately. The film talked about the plumbing of each sex. One question was "How does the sperm get to the girl?" Answer was "you'll have to ask your father about that." . My high school switched our health class one year to sex education. Learned about the plumbing and how it works. Knowledge about intercourse was assumed. And little or no discussion about masturbation. Being gay? No way! This class was also after several girls went away for 9 months or so... Too little, too late! . For an only male child, education is piecemeal from friends on camping trips, or quiet times when parents aren't around. . Do we -want- our youngsters educated on the playground?? . The Puritans and Victorians are still influencing what should be a joyous part of growing up! . --PaulMmn
@ Six - Yep. But I go back next week for a deep scale removal. Evidently the last 2 hygienists didn't do a very good job. Go figure. But, consequently, next weeks is No Charge. XOXO
@ paulmmn - Our school system operated in much the same way, with the same kinds of answers: "You'll have to ask your parents." When we did go into Sex Ed in HS, there was no mention of masturbation at all. Yep, we had a couple of girls leave. One stayed and didn't hide her pregnancy. When my mom found out we had a pregnant girl at school, her response to me was, "If you ever get a girl pregnant, I'll cut it off!" Yikes!!! (Though, no problem there since I shoot blanks.) The christian theocrats are sending us backward in order to keep those puritanical and Victorian attitudes in place.
