"We have a Uni restroom at work and the urinals aren't separated very well so as a result you can be standing with your dick in your hand when one of the women comes in. One came in and saw a coworker jerking it at a urinal and she filed a complaint. The guys think its bullshit but what can we do about it?"
Uni restrooms became popular after Ally McBeal made its debut on television, but they typically had only stalls. Folks didn't like that - can't say as I blamed them. It caused wait times for the women and too many dudes were too lazy to lift the seats. So, architects began putting in both stalls and urinals. We have a few around town, but the urinals are way in the back and off in an alcove.
The problem isn't that he was jacking off at a urinal, the problem is that he was within the line of vision. But, the real question is: If your colleague knew the lay of the land, so to speak, why wasn't he in a stall?
Management really has two routes to take, in my opinion. They accept her complaint, tell her they'll take care of the problem, and counsel your coworker about jacking off at a urinal. OR They accept her complaint, tell her they'll take care of it, and put in more a efficient sightline barrier.

Sorry, but being discovered jacking off, in plain site, in a unisex bathroom, in an office environment should, by all means, be grounds for termination. There is no gray area here; the company is on the hook for sexual assault / harassment if they do nothing other than "counseling" or remodeling.
Sounds like a poor layout for that uni.

The idea of a unisex restroom is appalling. We men have been caving into women's lib just a tad too much, and this is an example of that. I don't care if a guy is rubbing one out at a urinal.Nonebof us should be. Women have weaseled their way into sports locker rooms. They have made YMCAs "family centers." Now we have to share restrooms with them. Well, fuck that. That company is just too cheap to provide separate facilities for males and females. Well, fuck them, too. C'mon, brothers, enough is enough. Let's draw the line here.
While there's nothing wrong with masturbating there is a town in place for it. Especially if bathrooms are going to be for both sexes. I'm not sure why anybody would jack off at the urinal in the first place in a unisex bathroom in a work environment. I know many men have jacked off at work... but in stalls and men's room only bathrooms.
I kind of agree with big dude, can’t folks have a little privacy? The women get the stalls and the privacy, how come the men don’t get the same privacy?
But I also agree with a couple of others, whatever you’re doing standing at a urinal is going to be fair game to be seen by anyone coming in. So you’re kind of tempting fate. And it looks like management has let the employees fight it out which is absolutely the wrong thing to do. If I was a man there, I would be using the women’s stalls for privacy. It’s probably going to take another generation to work all this out.

This could all be alleviated through greater working from home and individual self-cleaning restroom cubicles that are non-gendered for the remainder, but society is so mired in the past and maintaining the status quo, they are too afraid to change with the times.
It's also why so many issues with homosexuality in the past and now other forms of diversity, because we stick rigidly to a binary gender tradition that has always been about diversity: binary itself is the diversity of sexual reproduction versus the unitary nature of asexual reproduction and we were deliberately blind to anything except the superficial binary gender division.
However I believe there are other agendas at work here: criminalising the human body and its natural functions simply because some very sensitive people are unreasonably subjectively offended and expect the world to revolve around them and their challenges.
Jesus Christ: if a woman sees a penis and wigs out, how is she ever going to have sex or children? It's sheer paranoia to also be afraid that every penis that can be seen in the vicinity is going to rape her.

I don't think that unisex restrooms have anything to do with the women's lib movement and more to do with the fact that it shouldn't matter what restroom you use but for trans people, it is an issue. With unisex restrooms, there is no issue with who goes where. With that said, there needs to be some privacy, and these should be built so that both sexes feel comfortable. As for the guy jerking at work, I've done it. However, always out of sight and where there is NO chance anyone would know what I was doing. He should be counseled, and they should move on.

Well, I was brought up in a household with one bathroom, I guess you could say it was a unisex bathroom. But I made sure the door was closed and locked if I decided to rub one out.
@unapologetic: what's so misogynistic about wanting separate restrooms and locker rooms? Male sports journalists have to leave female locker rooms after 30 minutes so the female athletes can shower and change in private. Yet male athletes are not granted this right to privacy. Women like you do not want equality, you want your own way. And just for the record, I have two friends who are professional athletes who hate having women in the locker room, when their own wives are not even allowed in. Nor are their wives crazy about the idea. And don't give me that bull crap about these women being "professional." We both know that's not entirely true.
