Right, after Fat Day comes Lent. Typically Judeo-Christian, this good-bad-good way of balancing people's lives. Except we are no longer living in a world where priests and other shamans rule our every act. This said, and for the sake of of getting to be a "better person", let me try and write down my short Lent list :
- start having friendly conversations with the dumb and nasty retired constable living in my building? => No - stop having a glass (or two) of red wine before dinner? => No (actually I am currently raising one to your good health, both mental and physical) - spending less if not no time surfing the web in order my modest general culture? => No - stop appreciating unpasteurized cheeses that smell strong with real bread from a real baker? As I am definitely not sorry to be French => No - stop downloading series I do not pay for 'cause 'they' say it's bad although they're not available in my country? => No - start going to (whatever) church again? => No, I went there in my youth enough for 2 or 3 more lifetimes, hence my atheism - go looking for a politician whose promises are reliable? Come on, is this really a serious question? - stop wanking on a (very) regular basis before all these beautiful nude men who's pictures I contribute to spread on the Internet through my blog? AB-SO-LUST-ELY NOT!
I don't give up anything, we ADD something. So for Lent this year, I"m adding one item to a box each day to go to charity. At the end of lent, I'm taking the box and donating the items. This would be hard for a minimalist but for those of us with too much "stuff", its not so hard. Last year, I reached out to one friend I hadn't talked to in 6 months or more each day for the entire period. It was awesome.
Nothing. Lent started in January 2020 and never let up.
Maybe I should take up being kinder, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow. Perfect saying for Rush Limbaugh: "I have never wished a man dead, but I have experienced some obituaries with great pleasure." Mark Twain.
Nothing? I don't care about Lent (and I was brought up Catholic and was an altar boy all the way up to when I was fifteen). I find the posing and preening of religious people amusing, though. Sinning is fun. XOXO
@BatRedneck: My inner pedant knows my Jewish friends get offended by "Judeo-Christian", but it's not really about them, is it? (And I hear Islam is part of that family as well.)
When I was much more practicing, I was usually able to stick to Lent.

Unless I figure out a way to get Lumbersexual to whip his cock out.
I have nothing to give up because I'm not religious. Especially any of those things you posted!
