Back on Nov 12, I posted about the ridiculousness of the VA school district banning books and threatening to burn them.
Faithful Reader Erick, sent in a message with a request that I'm finally getting around to.

In that vein perhaps you could make a post on people's favorite gay novels.
I'll start by saying anything by Alan Hollinghurst, particularly The Live of Beauty
Also Andrew Holleran Dancer from the Dance
Of Course Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin.
Also Funny Boy by Shyam Selvadurai
And Before the Last Dance by James Chubley.
I spend a few hours/ day reading and am always looking for new authors of gay related material."

He should, of course read all the banned books. There's a list every year and it's googable.
I'd recommend Tom Daley's and Chasten Buttigieg memoirs. Both rock. He could also try Kink Stories, edited by R.O. Kwon. Loved it.

A good way to relieve your eyes is to alternate equal periods, let us say of half an hour, between the activities which tire them (computer or television or reading… (yes, reading included)) and those which rest them (everything else).

In high school when we were taking our final exams, as we walked into our room our biology teacher told us to go to the windows and stare at the mountains. Same idea as YFP - give your eyeballs something different to do!

I am a big reader, but I listen to most of my books. There is plenty of "gay fiction and nonfiction" available at your local library. Just search for it on you local library's website. And many of those are audiobooks. They are great to listen to if you are working on a project or if you drive a distance to work every day. And no eyes needed; great way to relax. Listen to a book.
Also Google is your friend, just ask what are the top 10 best gay fiction or nonfiction books.

If you're looking for a brisk, fun read... try Ricky Wilk's two detective novellas - Murder Me, Please, and Poison Me, Slowly. Great fun. And anything by Carl Corley - you can read all his stuff for free on-line.
Brokeback Mountain of Annie Proulx, story that inspired the film of the same name
If he hasn't read it already, which is hard to believe, he should read Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin. It's a great read, and the sequels are also good!

So many! I was absolutely flawed when I read The Naked Lunch at the tender age of 19... but for sheer intensity of suspenseful gay romance (ie, when the fuck is he going to actually come out and kiss him??) number one has to be Call me by Your Name. Couldn't put it down!
