With so much hullabaloo and pearl-clutching over Drag performances, I firmly believe it is time for some Originalist Shakespeare productions all over the country. Maybe, especially in those small-minded small towns where they protest while wearing military garb carrying AR15-style rifles. You know, to educate them.

Oh, you mean Shakespeare in backwater, backwoods, conservative towns? They wouldn't go because people in those plays 'don't talk English'.

Yes that's a good idea. Drag has a looooong history, especially in the theatre.
I don't think AR-15 rifle people read Shakespeare or are aware that in Shakespeare time only men performed in the theaters. All roles were played by men, even "Romeo and Juliet".
I wonder how certain Senators and Representatives would vote on gun control if members of their families were victims of AR-15 murders.

A little bit of modesty even if it is essential for us. It is only a brief tube of flesh that carries a few drops of sperm.

@ Six - You're probably right. Granted, if it's poorly done, Shakespeare is not easy to follow. If --- on the other hand --- you have a director and actors who know what the lines mean, it can come across crystal clear. No interpretation necessary. XOXO

I think if you showed it on Netflix, modernize it, add plenty of violence and sex.

Wood.... it keeps one warm. And yes, I would love to see gender roles switched in Shakespeare. Macbeth would be so much fun.

@ Jean - It's been bandied about that there are no new plots because Shakespeare covered them all, so many folks have seen modernized versions of his plays and they weren't even aware of it. LOL. Perhaps if we had men play all the female roles, eh?
What's hilarious to me is, in more recent times, there was discrimination against gah actors in theatre. Kevin Conroy wrote about it in his DC Pride autobiography.
The discrimination is more recent.
