Just before my computer crapped out, a reader sent a question regarding Blood Pressure meds, aging, and boners.
"I found your blog awhile ago when I was reading Queer Heaven. I am writing because your blog on boner killers hit so close to home. I am an older man and unfortunately have the double killer of age and blood pressure medication. My cock just doesn't react the way it use to. Do you or your readers know of any natural remedies , I don't want to start anymore meds. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me."
When we were young and horny, our cocks would stand up in a matter of seconds. Age alone can be a major factor in our ability to get hard. It takes longer. It takes more stimulation, both mental and physical. This is, more likely than not, a lack of Testosterone. The output begins its decline in our 40's.

Couple the lowering Testosterone levels with medication(s) - a variety of which will kill our boners - and we find ourselves in a very disheartening situation. While our balls may produce less T they will still get that achy, full sensation telling us it's time for an ejaculation. But, our cocks no longer want to cooperate.

A trip to the doctor and a very frank discussion is in order. First and foremost is to ask for the T levels to be checked. All of them: Total Testosterone; Free Testosterone; Bioavailable Testosterone. If you don't want to start adding meds, here's a link to some Natural Remedies to boost testosterone:
HEALTHLINE and to lower blood pressure HEALTHLINE
But, a word of caution: Always consult your doctor before altering your medications or supplementing them with holistic remedies. Even vitamins can affect the way a prescription med works. Ask about adjusting the current Blood Pressure medication, or finding one which won't have such a severe affect on your ability to get an erection.

Men have been known to slide into severe depression. If only doctors would recognize it for what it is... The physical pain mounts, then frustration rises as we try anything
- without success - to relieve the pressure in our nuts.

It weighs on our minds, and both our physical and mental health suffers.

There's an old saying: "If I don't know what's wrong, I can't fix it." Guys, if your doctor doesn't ask about your boner quality, speak up!

There is no need to suffer. Personally, my ability to get a hard-on (at least strong enough for me to jack off) is too important to let a little bit of embarrassment stop me from seeking help.

Readers, do you have any other suggestions?

I take two BP meds and two BPH meds. Getting an erection within seconds is no problem. It still lives up to the name I gave it years ago. Actually, it's as hard now as when I was a teen. There are, however, changes I've learned to live with. I don't get nocturnal erections. It just "fluffs up" quite a lot. Ejaculate is clear and viscous and not much of that. Cumming is still a screaming toe curler. Overall, I'm a happy 76 year old. If only I had a willing partner. Wife went off sex years ago. I masturbate at least once a day. I could still keep a harem happy.
Great advice! Yes! Talk to your doctor! Prostate surgery can also be a factor!
Enjoy 'em when you get 'em, don't sweat it when you don't.
Doesn't exercise help to stimulate T production? All part of circulation health. Wouldn't you think by now doctors, especially urologist, would be able to offer good solutions? Make it even easier for them and speak up. Bisous and hugs.

I hope to calm down my too huge libido!!!
I've been taking a maintenance dose of Cialis every morning, which works for me, but isn't answer requested. My suggestion is to masturbate with at least one foot on the floor (or 2 feet, standing). This naturally raises blood pressure and helps with boners!
@ Jean - Yes, exercise will boost T levels a little bit. And, yep - circulation is lacking in the area. As the commercials say, "I could be a mattyer of blood flow." But, you would think especially Urologists would have better solutions, wouldn't you?
One thing that I've noticed as I've grown older is that I get distracted!
The plumbing still works very nicely; my bloodpressure medication doesn't seem to have a limpening effect (although I'm sure it probably has some).
What really has more of an effect-- I get distracted! I usually jerk off in the morning, but if the television news is on I get distracted. Even if the TV is off, a stray thought will distract me (like the old joke, "Dear, the ceiling needs painting"). Or I'm rushed, and need to get to work.
What works best is making sure I have lots of time, with nothing to do, and no place to go. - Paul
