Do It Again

Bravo, OHIO!

That calls for a celebration of some sort.

Hey...

...think you can do it again in November?

They did good.
I'm kind of worried that 30% of people actually voted yes? Really?

XOXO

It's surely a huge win for women's rights but in 2023 it's very sad that after the shamefull ruling of the SCOTUS each states in USA has to fight to reinstate those rights.

A long battle again and again when that issue was get cared of many years ago.
With all those «Regressive» from your far right politicians, nothing can be poured in concrete.

In my province of Quebec, there was a «pro life Christian» group who was denied to rent a public place to spread their anti abortion ideology. Here and in most part of Canada, abortion rights are assured by our Canadian Charter of Rights and Liberties.

This anti abortion group is now sueing the government in court because they were vicitms of the «freedom of speech» under our Canadian Constitution.

All of our government parties are fighting against those «pro life» fans as we have ruled it many years ago to provide women the right to be free to do what they want of their own body without any religious interference.

As long as religion is in power in USA, your country will not be more open for women rights as in those Islamic countries like Iran to keep women under their mysogenistic power.

I live in Ohio and I can tell you first hand what a breath of fresh air it was to see this issue defeated. The Republican Party is suffering from a very apparent identity crisis. It seems they are trying a format similar to 1939 Germany. No wonder they are so unpopular in their idiotic beliefs and behaviors. I became a proud member of the Democratic Party years ago! Thank you for your blog! I have learned so much from it!

I live in Ohio and I am so elated Issue 1 was defeated! Republicans have a major identity crisis! They seem to be developing a game plan similar to 1939 Germany. Censorship sucks and has no place in 2023. I have been a proud democrat for years. Thank you for your blog. I have learned so much from it!!!

A majority of people have supported reproductive rights, but when they showed up to vote in general elections, they voted Republican and Trump. That got us the SCOTUS that we have today and the Trump administration.
This was a single issue Election, that will not be the case in November, and this will be an off year. Let’s hope they keep the momentum. Hugs and bisous.

Ohio and Kentucky both surprised the hell out of me. Way to go!

@JIEL: To be fair, states like Alabama and Texas are more about still feeling salty for losing the Civil War and integration than about religion at all. Seriously, you don't understand the Southern mentality without understanding racism.

Ohio is, well, the Clintons continued Reagan's union-busting, so labor no longer had a reason to vote for the Democrats. (Seriously, you could not tell a centrist Dem from a tankie if China came up in those days.) Ultimately it was decided that Texas was winnable, but only by dumping states like Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, hence the fucking gasbag's victory in those states. Clinton still lost Texas, and the math would've made for a lower electoral vote count than Gore or Kerry unless she won Ohio, which would've been sufficient to tip the scales from an L to a W if she had also won all of Gore and Kerry's states. (And of course winning all of Obama's states would win, BUT! there were still sour feelings after some very vocal Clinton supporters flounced in a very racist, and very public, way and voted for McCain.)

@ MFP - My particular "Bravo, Ohio!" is only congratulatory in nature as the voters there defeated a sneaky Republican political move. Hugs and bisous.

Such a resounding victory, too. I can only think that people are super angry about Roe vs. Wade being overturned and it's going to damn the GOP at the polls for some time to come. That horrible party needs to be ripped to shreds. And I do believe the orange ogre has the puerile mouth to do just that!

whkattk said...

@ Six - That's what the Repugs were hoping for and the voters outdid the numbers in the previous primary election.

whkattk said...

@ Jean - You're right about that. Now, we'll see how they do in Nov when Roe is on the ballot along with candidates. Will they get rid of the Republicans? I kinda doubt it, but we can hope. Hugs and bisous.

@ nakedswimmer - Let's go all conspiracy theory on the 2016 election and say that Trump rigged it and stole it! 🤣

nakedswimmer said...

It's not a conspiracy theory. Third Way types were literally saying how they would win back the South. A purely emotional victory, TBH. Except it wasn't a victory; we got TFG instead.

The point I was making is that Ohio is a swing state, but driven into Trump territory by Democrats trying to appeal to Libertarians.

By the way, the DLC was funded by Koch Industries. David Koch was at one time a Libertarian candidate for Vice President back in the 80s. Interesting.

If Democrats' #Resistance ever seems a bit flaccid, now you know why.
