Take Your Arrow

It's Saint Valentine's Day. A day created by the card industry to assist slumping after-holiday sales. I hope you all have a wonderful day. If you don't have someone to celebrate with,

there is absolutely no reason you can't celebrate yourself!
Take your arrow

Happy Valentine's Day to all my Faithful Readers
*******************************************
It's cloudy. It's cold. It's raining. A perfect day to read. I'm an avid reader. This year I've already read six novels (two of them are close to 700 pages). I read across many genres - paranormal (ghosts, vampires, shifters), mystery, horror, general fiction, and, yes, even erotica.

I'll pretty much read anything as long as it's well written, and my shelves are packed.
What do you like to read?

being single, the only Valentine's day I celebrate is on my blog!

I used to read a lot; science fiction mostly. But over the years my eyes would get too tired so I just read periodicals now.

Especially, I want to wish you an excellent Valentine's Day with many many hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat. I would like to do it in fire letters twenty meters high, unfortunately my computer does not have this font.
What do I like to read? Your blog, obviously.

"To-morrow is Saint Valentine's day,
All in the morning betime,
And I a maid at your window,
To be your Valentine.
Then up he rose, and donn'd his clothes,
And dupp'd the chamber-door;
Let in the maid, that out a maid
Never departed more."

— William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act IV, Scene 5

At this time, the Saint Valentine's day was already celebrated from centuries.

I think that the Saint Valentine's Day is a day used and not created by the card industry to assist slumping after-holiday sales. Otherwise, it may be true as regards the USA, but certainly not Europe.

There is a ring of truth to Valentine's Day being a marketing ploy. There are at least half a dozen St. Valentines from various religions. Imagine the hype if big retail latched onto a few more!

We mark the day with a quiet dinner at home. We shut down all electronics except for our stero and spend the evening listening to the great romantic crooners. Slow dancing with my man is my perfect Valentine's Day.

What do we like to read....
Bryn likes historical fiction and biographies. I am a murder mystery and spy thriller fan. Our shelves are also packed. I have a list of authors that I buy and so does one if my sisters. At Christmas we swap what we have read through the year. The stipulation is that the books must be purchased second hand. When we are both done with them we donate them to a charity for their book sale...usually the Humane Society.

On Valentine's Day we think of those
Who make our lives worthwhile,
Those gracious, friendly people who
We think of with a smile.
I am fortunate to know you,
That's why I want to say,
To a rare and special person:

Happy Valentine's Day!

I pretty much like reading bizarre and scary stories, mysteries. Autobiographies.

I like to read your blog! Happy Valentine's Day, bro. Your message and mine are the same - Single? Not a problem - Celebrate loving yourself and I definitey enjoyed making love to me. I wined and dined myself so well and then whisked myself away for a romantic evening. Woo Hoo! I hope you had a lovely day, my Friend. Hugs, Licks, and Strokes, AOM

I read a lot too. I especially love anything by Alan Hollinghurst. very cultured very gay :)

I mostly am reading gay romances on my iPad - easy reads and often well written. Little gore and violence. I'm puzzled that I seem to be more interested in the stories than the sex scenes.

My "serious reading" is listening to spoken books in the car - often with my husband. I found I need the discipline of hearing every word to appreciate the likes of Jane Austen, PD James, and Agatha Christie, but a Clive Clussler or Dick Francis helps to speed the miles.

@ Bruce - what a terrific thing it is to swap books and then donate them. Certain authors I must purchase in hardback; those I keep collecting and I do reread them upon occasion.
