What is Pornography?

When it comes to censorship, what is pornography? I've heard people say, "I know it when I see it." Okay. Fine. But, the sad part is, there are groups that insist on deciding for everyone. Rather like wanting to place fig leaves on the great works of art one can find throughout Greece, Italy, and in world-class museums.

Witness what recently happened with Tumblr: All "adult" content was stripped; blogs shut down, leaving those who enjoyed viewing and reading that content to look elsewhere.
About two years ago Amazon began restricting certain writing; if it doesn't meet their "standards" they will remove it from their lists of books. Erotica is okay, pornography is not. But, what is pornography?

Guess it's up to those who "know it when they see [read] it" and complain.

Free-thinking people have to resist and fight back. While that did no good in stopping Tumblr, reports are that participation has plummeted. And, consequently, so has the stock price of the parent company, Verizon (Oath, a Verizon subsidiary, holds both Tumblr and Yahoo).
If artistic expression depicts the human condition,

what is pornography?

I remember when I lived in Harrisburg. Their capital building is consistently voted one of the best in the county. A couple years ago they actually covered the penises on the male statue with hand carved marble leaves!!!!!!!! All because conservatives complained. Never mind the statues had been their since the first roosevelt.....and taxpayers paid for it.

Ridiculous.

Like a lot of things, it's in the eye of the beholder.

Pornography, which has been used in English since about 1850, comes from the Greek pornographos (“writing about harlots (=prostitutes)").

"I know it when I see it" is a quote from the Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart in 1964. To see, to look at... I wonder what is it when he looks at it.

Don't worry, if I wish you a great day, my darlings Jean and Pat, that is not pornographic at all.

I would say pornography is for adults. That should be the only consideration. Hugs and bisous.

One good thing is, people now know AI is crap.

How far does this go? I mean, rape is omnipresent in media. (With the current comic book movie fad, Captain Marvel comes to mind: In Avengers #200, her son from the future brainwashes her so he can conceive himself with her.)
