More Significance Than Suspected

You know how I'm always saying boners are a barometer of our health?

Now comes news out of the UK reported in The Daily Mail --- sent in by faithful reader Jean --- that the first steady (we hope) spontaneous boner of the day, that Morning Glory, may have more significance than suspected.

Citing research done in Belgium, the article "Wood you believe it? New study says men who get erections in the morning less likely to die from heart disease or strokes" posits that those nocturnal boners show good circulation.

"Scientists asked up to 1,800 middle-aged and older men in Belgium how often they got 'morning glory'.

They found that those who frequently had morning erections were around 22 per cent less likely to die from the major killers."

'Loss of morning erections are a sign your arteries are not functioning properly,' Dr Geoff Hackett, the ex-president of the British Society for Sexual Medicine, told The Sun.

'That means you are at significant risk of a heart attack or stroke within three to five years.

'This applies to celibate, single men — not just those who have a partner.' "

So, pay attention to that morning wood.

It's got some very important things to tell you.

It seems to me logic to think that the morning boner is the result of good blood circulation.
Therefore, so much the better for one as for the other.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.
Have a lovely day.

I also found out that women have exactly the same reaction, for the very same reasons.
So, lucky for all of us, this has probably done more for the perpetuation of the human species than anything.
Hugs and bisous.

Good to know, but men shouldn't worry if they sometimes wake up without morning wood. Men get nocturnal erections during REM sleep (dreaming), whether the dream is erotic or not. If you wake up from a dream, you have morning wood. If you don't, you don't.
Much of your REM sleep happens toward morning, which is why morning wood is common, but it's not a problem if you don't have morning wood every day.

Having said that, if you used to get morning wood but now you never do, that sounds like a problem. As the doctor you quoted said, "Loss of morning erections are a sign your arteries are not functioning properly."

Thanks for all the information that you provide. –Larry

Having a good erection, even only when there is a sexual desire, is a sign of good circulation. I never have morning erections, but I have neither circulation nor heart problems.

And there are other weird things. Like, I get erections from the heat, but I can't orgasm if the heat index is over 100°F/38°C.
