Every time we think we have made progress, along come people in power to take it away, to turn back the clock. Citing religious rights - of course - Justices Alito and Thomas are salivating at the opportunity to overturn the 2015 Gay Marriage ruling.
You see, the court turned away an appeal by Kim Davis to have a lawsuit against her dismissed. She's being sued for discrimination for refusing to grant marriage licenses to same sex couples even after the 2015 Obergefell ruling.
A slew of media reports on this surfaced but because of the ridiculousness in the White House has not been given much wide-spread attention. As CBS News reports, "Although Justice Clarence Thomas agreed with the court's decision not to take up the dispute, in a scathing statement joined by Justice Samuel Alito, he criticized the Supreme Court's 2015 decision and said it "bypassed the democratic process" and left people with religious objections to same-sex marriage "in the lurch.""
The problem with their argument: denying equal rights for gay marriage could also easily be argued on religious grounds. What if my religion supports gay sex and marriage? By denying me, they would be infringing upon my religious beliefs.
I promise you that the extreme right wing evangelicals will continue to challenge Supreme Court rulings they disagree with on religious grounds. With the lower courts stacked in their favor it has become easier. If the current administration manages to seat "...Amy Coney Barrett to succeed Ginsburg on the high court ... as President Trump has suggested its outcome could be decided by the justices."
We must continue to fight. We must continue to educate.

I saw that news piece a couple of days ago.
The future is becoming more and more frightening.
Here Here! Time to move on! it is 2020 after all. In the us it's always the same old shit, but a different day.
I don't know a about normal, but they sure are fun. I'm not worried. There are a myriad of arguments to be made before gay marriage would be overturned. You just mentioned one of the best. Also... separation of church and state, although that one, sigh... well, someone ran over that one with a lawnmower a long time ago. It's like that part of the constitution people like to pretend doesn't count.
it is painful to see when the most cherished achievements can be questioned
But Big, you always have my attention!
LoL
Alito and Thomas are pandering to the religious wrong, same as Hair Furor nominating that see you next Tuesday for SCOTUS. UGH.
They’ll try to do away with gay marriage and they’ll try to use that cow Kim whateverhername to do it.
XoXo
Here, Here.
Homosexuality is ubiquitous in animal species. Still taboo in the scientific community, and very little known to the general public, animal homosexuality has however been observed in nearly 500 species. Pleasure, games of seduction, hugs, caresses, fidelity… animal sexuality is not only geared towards reproduction.
And at the same time, yes, homosexuality has always existed in humans, and this in many ethnic groups since the dawn of humanity.
Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.
A hundred years from now folks will wonder what the big deal was. I suspect they will have more things to worry about than what goes on in bedrooms. Hugs and bisous.
As long as Dems continue to go for the Southern affluent white suburban vote, this will happen. Simps, all of them.
@ Six - Glad to know I always have your attention! 😊
Well, at least we know that Kim "Cow" whateverhername is done. SCOTUS left the lower court's ruling stand. But, we can be guaranteed that someone will be back with another case. The Repugs will never give up the fight, so we must battle on. Sad as is may be. xoxo
I'm honestly not worried. Democrats abandoned labor at their peril, aligning with genocidal regimes like China instead. What happens now is consequence. Enjoy, hún dàn.
@Your French Patrick: "Still taboo in the scientific community". No, it isn't. Stop trying to spice up stories with nonexistent conflict. At best it can be said evopsych in general (and that includes the flip side like Desmond Morris), is, but that's for WEIRD, a dearth of plausible mechanisms, anthropomorphism, and outright sympathetic magic.
