History Repeats

December 1. World AIDS Day. A day to remember those who have succumbed to the disease, but also to make people aware of the fact that HIV/AIDS is still around.

The Granddaddy of all ribbon campaigns

Group masturbation grew out of the AIDS crisis with the opening of Jack Off Clubs to encourage men to have safe sex. The New York Jacks was among the first - if not the first - to open. Masturbation was encouraged by activist groups as an alternative to anal or oral sex before much at all was known about the virus. Of course, the backlash was harsh. Men didn't want to give up what they enjoyed, what is a natural urge: Sexual contact with another person.

Just like COVID-19, the more science was applied, the more we knew what we could and couldn't do to keep ourselves safe.

Now, here we are again. And masturbation is again being encouraged as a means of safe sexual release. Though, now, we are asked to remain completely alone in the endeavor. It's hard - if you'll pardon the pun.

Sex is important to our health and welfare,

but safe sex is paramount to our health and welfare.

Fellow blogger Sixpence has done a very wonderful post of the subject today. WAD 2020 It's really worth your time to go check it out.

Thanks for calling the day out. We so frequently ignore such days. Love all the gifs and flying cum. And LOVE the new header photo (healthy man) (indeed).

For sure, they haven't invested as much money to find an HIV vaccine as for the Covid-19, otherwise it would be known.

A shameful disease, which only affects gays, they said.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.

Aww, Big.
You're too nice.

And I've never been in a circle jerk. It should be fun, post-covid-19.

XOXO

@ Six - They were a lot of fun. Attended my first one in the barracks. All those str8 dudes jerking off together... Amazing!

@ Jean - there just seems to be so many similarities in the way some people are responding. To date, approx 700,000 have died of HIV/AIDS. CV-19 - we're at 275,000+ within 11 months.

This is why I taught my sons about condoms and that there was nothing wrong with jerking off with their friends. - Dad

It was more they didn't want to be limited to masturbation. Before the 70s, anal was actually unpopular with gay/bi men. Oral, especially sucking, "rough trade" (masculine blue-collar often rural straight men, typically ages 15~35), as well as masturbation, were standard. Dry humping was also big, as was giving rough trade massages ending in masturbating the recipient.

There were taboos with rough trade. No kissing, no anal, the straight man may ask for money (Apparently being a prostitute was better than being gay.) and the gay man may certainly give gifts. Don't expect the straight guy to pay you.

When AIDS came along, it said only masturbation and dry humping were safe. Gay men thought medical experts were taking oral and anal away, along with the idea of multiple sex partners. So the philosophy became minimal intervention, organizations more concerned with fighting stigma, I.e. PR, than with preventing new infections. This had minimal impact.

I enjoy your nostalgic post about masturbation, but I don't think many guys especially the young guys mind being alone covid or pre-covid. There is a significant amount of men happy to perform on cam, and many monetizing their performances. Why should they ever meet face to face and have actual conversation when they can simply swipe pictures and text? I think technology has killed mutual or group activities. Am I the only one seeing it this way?

There was the government's blasé attitude. There were barebackers just as we have Karens. The number of parallels to hydroxychloroquine, such as trying to cure it with diet under the Mbeki administration, or America's "anything but condoms and diddling" approach.

One good thing is, I did connect with old jerking bros from college. We have a Zoom ring. (I always keep three computers, one for horny, one for work, and one for main. Keep horny away from work.) When this pandemic clears up, we've agreed to schedule a meetup, but until then, Zoom.
