We Salute You

Today is the day the infant U.S. declared its independence from Britain, and then fought a long war to achieve its status as a free and independent nation. Now the Brits have done the same with the European Union - without the need for war, though there will be many political battles to come. Still, let's celebrate that all men of freedom may enjoy things like creating (or viewing) this blog which would land peoples of other countries in jail, or worse.

For preserving our right to free speech, and for all the other freedoms we have gained: Women's right to vote, for the civil rights act of the 1960's, for women to have control over their reproductive lives, for the right to serve our country regardless of gender or sexual orientation, the right to marry whomever we choose regardless of race since 1967 and, finally! gender since 2015.
We salute you.

Your celebration is a little a French one, the general Lafayette having participated with his army in the war against the Englishes, along with his close friend Thomas Jefferson who, in a letter of November 4, 1803, expressed to Lafayette the gratitude of the USA by granting him a large area in newly acquired “Louisiana”. On June 27, Jefferson insisted that “it would be a great satisfaction to see the Marquis of Lafayette a citizen of Louisiana” but Lafayette declined the position of governor of Louisiana because of Mme de Lafayette’s poor health.

Happy and merry 4th of July, to all my numerous American friends and to my Love in the USA, without forgetting those in France and in the other countries!

“May God Bless America” (as says it the title of the film of Robert Morin, 2005)

And, at the same time, may him particularly bless Jean and you, mon chéri, to whom I wish a wondrous day with lots of bisous.
