Did You?

Startling new information about HPV - human papilloma virus. Fifty percent of parents are refusing to get their age-appropriate (11 and 12) kids vaccinated. It would seem they aren't aware of the ravages this common virus can wreak.
This vaccine prevents a variety of cancers. When asked in a survey by the Annals of Internal Medicine, more than 80% of men and women, ages 18 - 26, didn't know that HPV causes: Cervical, anal, penile, throat, and oral cancers.
Did you?

A few years ago a friend of mine went through treatment (surgery, radiation, chemo) for an oral-throat cancer. He's in his 70s, never smoked, never drank to excess, and wondered how or why he developed the cancer. Well, oral sex - at some point in his life - with someone who had the HPV virus is likely the cause.

Did you know that "catch-up" vaccination is recommended for anyone up to age 26?
Did you know you can still get vaccinated if you're between the ages of 27 and  46?

Talk to your doctor.
It would probably be a very good idea if you are not in a monogamous relationship and indulging in unprotected oral or anal sex.

I did not know you can still get the vaccine up to 46. I wonder when it came available to adults, and I also wonder if it is covered by most insurances.

Doctors should be bringing this up during their physicals asking if their patients have had this vaccination, it should be a part of their medical records. A good reminder. Hugs and bisous.

@ Jean - I agree. But, first men need to go for a physical. Sadly, few do unless it's a prerequisite for something like being on an athletic team.

I wasn't aware of the vaccination timelines but my doctor routinely checks me with an anal "displeasure" test.

Parents often think it will make their kids have sex. Fundie ones anyway. You know, as if the sex drive didn't already exist.

And of course the usual antivax bullshit.
