Erasing Freedoms

Speaking of erasing freedoms.... A couple of weeks ago OnlyFans declared it was going to ban all NSFW content. If you wanted to find your favorite porn star's content, you'd have to look elsewhere.

They have since changed that melody and reversed course. As Alyson over at MEL had this to point out:

"While OnlyFans figures out what the hell they’re doing, it’s still best to find other NSFW platforms that support sex workers’ rights (and wallets). Currently, OnlyFans takes 20 percent of creators’ money, which is no small chunk of change. Magdalene Taylor looked at competitors Unlockd.MeManyVids and PocketStars to see how they stack up in terms of exclusive features and performer revenue. They’re definitely worth checking out, especially since they provide more incentives to both creators and consumers alike. It might sound like a pain in the ass to change platforms, but it’s better than being one of those people who scours the internet for phony Snapchat nudes instead of paying for sex work."

When raising the blinds on adult content...

What's your opinion?

OnlyFans fucked up.
They made billions off of sex workers and then threw them under the bus because they wanted to go 'clean' and cater to the Talibangelicals. Then they realized that without sex workers they'd be basically, Tumblr (see how 'cleaning up went for them) and backpedaled furiously.
But they still can ban porn, so my advice for any sex worker still on OF would be to backup all their content and go to a site that CATERS to sex workers and offers a better cut. Fuck Only Fans. And not the nice way.

XOXO

Alyson is right, but that doesn't change OnlyFans' unexpected declaration of war which is likely to be schooling and which I hope causes them to lose a lot more money than they calculated as it was the case of Tumblr.
The problem is, bullshit is contagious. And if it is the responsibility of any law, that is all the more worrying.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean & Pat.

I'm very glad they rescinded their original decision.

Please put what NSFW means because as a French Canadian I don't always understand the meanings of those letters or others like MEL (???).

I was surprise of that news because to me OnlyFans is just a porn sex site.
How come they will sink themselves on that.

They seems to be a blow of biggotery among USA's sites or even in the general people too.

My friend Joe from The Closed Professor edited today, he found out that Ebay is now banning any selling of vintage or historical sexe stuffs.
Like collectable magazines like Penthouse of Playboy etc..
Making the historians of the gay culture almost impossible to save and purchase some historical gay culture artifacts.

USA is regressing with the rise of such Christian biggotery.

@ JiEL - Sorry! NSFW means Not Safe For Work. MEL is just the name of the magazine she writes for. I will try to remember in the future. 😘

20%???? That's insane. And even more ridiculous is that they would throw away that revenue stream. Why not just make a separate platform for non-sex stuff? If they want in that game? This is bad business all around.

Even if OnlyFans did pull the plug on XXX content, there's plenty other websites that would welcome their content-creators. Competition's good in cases like this one. 👍🏻🙂

This is what rule by a minority begins to look like. Where the majority of people either support or simply don't care one way or the other are ruled by all the different groups with an conservative agenda.

Isn't it amazing that it is always in our private lives and bedrooms that freedom ends.
Hugs and bisous.

@ Jean - Absolutely correct. I have labeled the ruling minority "American Taliban And Apartheid Society."

@JiEL: as a French I too am always baffled by the huge amount of acronyms that English language natives are using. I cannot spend a couple of days without googling 'letters'+acronym :-)
As recently as this afternoon I looked up 'STI' (thanks to Upton) which first led me to graduation of 'Sciences et Technologies Industrielles'. Erh... Adding 'acronym' to the search I got 'Sexually Transmitted Infection'. Which was more accorded to the context, LoL!

Back to OnlyFans, there are a few things that felt weird:

- how come a British based company - or at least owned by a British citizen - would truly struggle with the payment industry (aka banks) about how it would badly reflect upon their image, blah blah blah... Nonsense: even Priests knows how to deal with sending their money over to the Caimans without making a fuss of it, and the banks are fully involved without a blush;

- the pressure from the advertisers? Ditto: if a housewife finds out her preferred kitchen devices are being advertised on OnlyFans well it only comes to show from the start that she's looking up porn on that very platform. Again, the argument does not add up;

- in the knowledge of what it cost to the Tumblr platform and owners - a huge loss of valuation and therefore money - OnlyFan must have some kind of other agenda. The question being: which one?

Option #1: to increase the loyalty of their sexual content providers? Spreading a tiny bit of fear, then going backwards by ensuring their safety? No. That'd be an idiotic and self-devalorizing move.

Option #2: based upon their internal analysis of that specific market, and expecting the 'pandemic way of life' (that helped them make a success in the first place) to end at some point, they thought of that as an additional and worldwide news coup to show how appreciated they are before... a go to selling the company.

These are just my two cents.
I would not be much surprised, though, if we were to learn someday soon that the OnlyFans company went on the market for the highest bidder.

As Alyson checked out and wrote: "it’s still best to find other NSFW platforms that support sex workers’ rights (and wallets)".
I am confident the contents providers are smart enough to do the maths by themselves, for OnlyFans is no AppStore (30% off) and therefore can not reclaim to be an inescapable medium.

(and yes I reached Friday's Merlot happy hour time here and it shows by the length of this comment - sorry, Pat)
