From 100F yesterday to 62F and windy today. Ugh. A/C repairs today. At least the guys won't be sweating their cakes off.
Senator Mike Lee (R) Utah introduced legislation that would make porn a federal crime.
"Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) recently introduced the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), which would effectively criminalize all pornography nationwide by legally redefining what it means to be obscene. For years, “obscenity” has been all but a defunct legal category that narrowly defines speech that remains unprotected by the First Amendment. Lee would explode this legal category, expanding it to encompass virtually all visual representations of sex.
Some critics have suggested that Lee’s definition of obscenity is so ridiculously broad that it could effectively criminalize Game of Thrones." [Bold is mine]
Worth noting, Google reports Utah tops the list of the most viewership:
"States often mentioned in lists of high porn-watching include Utah, Alaska, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. It's important to note that these rankings are often based on data from specific online pornography sites, which may not be fully representative of all porn consumption."
I encourage you to read the short article - it's worth the few minutes. If he's successful, it could spell the end of all adult blogs - making us all susceptible to criminal prosecution and imprisonment.
A question from a reader wanting to know what show these gifs are from.
Correction: I posted that the gifs were from Shameless. The gifs are from The White Lotus, Season 3; Lochlan (Sam Nivola) masturbating his older brother Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger).
Thank you erosart and Anonymous for setting the record straight.

I don't know how anyone can possibly vote for this bill and pass it. I can think of very few people who watch any kind of porn at all.... and that includes politicians who watch just as much if not more porn than anyone else. By the end of four with this Administration though, we'll be lucky if websites blogs and other types of media will even be around. At least without getting arrested or fined.
Ironic that there are many men of porn from Utah going back to the era of physique magazines. The Senator should look out for what he wishes for, what’s his internet use history ? No doubt he’s another con- servative hypocrite.

Those Gif's are not from Shameless, they are from season 3 of The White Lotus, and show Lochlan (Sam Nivola) masturbating his older brother Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger),
It's actually Patrick Schwarzeneggar & Sam Nivola S3 White Lotus
It's terrifying if these wingnuts get this crap passed.
It gets worse. I looked up the exact text of Mike Lee's proposed bill. Hidden at the end of it is a provision to amend section 223(a)(1)(A) of the Communications Act of 1934, which currently states (I looked it up):
"Whoever-- (1) in interstate or foreign communications--
(A) by means of a telecommunications device knowingly-- (i) makes, creates, or solicits, and (ii) initiates the transmission of,
any comment, request, suggestion, proposal, image, or other communication which is obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, or indecent, with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another person; … shall be fined under title 18, United States Code, or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Mike Lee's bill would remove the words "with intent to abuse, threaten, or harass another person." In other words, it would make ANY phone call where you talk about sex a crime, e.g. talking to your boyfriend or girlfriend about sex. Currently it's only a crime if it's a threatening or harassing call.
They're trying to take down all media except those that support him, so...yeah, we could see nothing but State Media.
No doubt. Lot's of comments on the Gizmo article asking to see his internet history.
We stand corrected. Thank you!
Thank you! I have corrected the post.
It will be. As Maddie pointed out, we'll be lucky if we have any free media left by the end of this administration.
I'm glad you dug deeper, Larry.
It's ridiculous to think even private conversations could land one in prison. But, this is what the far right does - they trample anything they don't like. Meanwhile, their Dear Leader frees all kinds of flotsam with pardons.
And looking at the wording again, sending a naked picture on your cellphone would be a crime, even if sent to a friend or spouse who likes it.
It's very Project 2025 to ban porn.
It's the Religious Reich, overreaching. Again.
Ugh.
XOXO
Geez, is Mike Lee‘s bill only to placate some zealous constituents? Maybe this gets brought up every Congress in hopes one day they might actually get it passed. It sounds crazy, but also it sounds crazy for a Presidential Library to get a $400 million 747 when the president leaves office, where are they going to park it? Hugs and bisous.
LOL
It will be just as bad if the bill largely keeps those words but changes them to: "if another person feels they are annoying, abusive, threatening or harassing" as it reduces a crime down to subjective feelings and basically hurt feelings.
It would be ironic if that happens as I understood Trump campaigned on reversing DEI and its trend to basing outcomes on subjective feelings. However, current moves seem to be aimed at reducing free speech to the spoken word between people like Amish communities, fundamentally isolating everyone to their local community fed external propaganda by the media. It reminds me of the movie 1984.
I once read a sci-fi novel that had as its premise the discovery of a device that could show visual history from any part of the planet, including history microseconds ago, virtually real time. This effectively eliminated privacy and I remember the closing scene was of a man masturbating openly in public because there was no point anymore in keeping it private as there was no longer any privacy.
It's actually a part of Project 2025. It's in the document. Ugh is right!
XOXO
It's in Project 2025. They're following the playbook they "knew nothing about." As for the 747? He'll use it and just claim it's part of his library.
Hugs and bisous.
It's all a mess. Just like everything else they're destroying, they want to destroy entire communities.
Sad the censorship and racism that is being supported by the current dictator and his republican cons.
If your (sex) pics are backed up in the cloud, you will be in violation of that law just by having them on your phone.
I have no doubt.
It is. All in the name of "protecting the children." The minute any politician comes up with that excuse, you know it's bullshit.
