Much More Sensitive

"Why is my dick more sensitive with a boner?"

I found this at the Manual of Health Care

"The penis is full of nerve endings [about 4,000], which normally give it its sensitivity. Whilst flaccid, the penis’s skin is only as sensitive as the skin elsewhere on your body. When erect, the blood that travels to the healthy penis makes it much more sensitive – and the more erect the penis is, the more sensitive it becomes."

Why is that, though? I couldn't find any further detailed information. I can only proffer a guess that the engorgement stretches the skin tight pushing those nerve endings closer to the surface.

Perhaps that's why a Superboner sticks around longer.

Any ideas, Readers?

The guess that you proffered makes sense, and what the Manual of Health Care says is certainly exact.

But above all except in cases of hypersensitivity or lack of sensitivity, I think that nobody complains or is astonished about this phenomenon.

Me, when it happened to me, it did not occur to me to prick my cock with formalin or to see taxidermist to neutralize this phenomenon which suits me perfectly.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.

I have no idea!
I’ve never thought about this one. It was just a fact.

Either something isn't right here or I'm a freak of nature.

I take exception to: "Whilst flaccid, the penis’s skin is only as sensitive as the skin elsewhere on your body."

Well, that does NOT describe me. True, I'm not as sensitive flaccid as when sportin' a rod, but my penile skin is definitely more sensitive while flaccid than say the skin on my arm.

I agree with your theory - hard and stretched tightens the skin around the nerve endings causing them to feel more sensations. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Wishing you a beautiful bonerific day, my Dear Friend. Hugs, Licks, and Strokes, AOM

It's these type of questions that reinforce the view that we hardly know anything about male sexuality and it is simply assumed to exist and work every time, hence the lack of interest.

My guess is that the mechanism of arousal and erection (including the hormone and chemical secretions) alters the perception of nerve impulses from the penis.

Interestingly, I understand that Prolactin levels spike after ejaculation, resulting in a reset of the arousal mechanism and producing a very high sensitivity in the penis that is experienced as painful, so I wouldn't be surprised if a chemical released during arousal alters the perception of stimulation to become more pleasurable.

Something I have always wondered about is whether all men have a similar amount of nerve endings in the penis, but size variation means that their density differs, perhaps leading to different perceptive experiences, such as needing greater stimulation (or conversely lasting longer) the larger the member. At the other extreme is the female clitoris, which perhaps is much more sensitive because a similar number of nerves are contained in a much smaller volume of tissue.

Maybe most men don't care as long as it works and the lack of discussion means that only extreme variations in experience are ever mentioned, yet different men may be having different experiences without being aware of it.

my cock gets so hard that it doesn't get particularly sensitive.

That first pic is amazing... sigh. Miss seeing things like that in person SO MUCH.

I think that you're right that erection causes pleasure nerves to be exposed to touch. The skin is also stretching and this might be how the nerve endings get exposed?

During this time of hormone therapy for prostate cancer and the suppression of testosterone I now longer feel horny, but If I can trick my cock into swelling up (Cialis + cock ring) the nerves become activated and I can bate for long enough to get erotic energy circulating in my body.

@ Anon - The clitoris has double the nerve endings at approx 8,000. When we read statistics like this, they should always be accepted as an approximation of "average."

@ Anon, 10-26, 12:20 - I think they may be referring to the shaft. The cockhead is always more sensitive than the skin on your arm.
