Here we go again. Sheesh. No, Monkeypox is NOT a "gay disease."
"Then why are people saying it is, why is is more prevalent among "men who have sex with men"?"
Simple answer: Men are more sexually active. Single gay and bi men are more sexually active.
This brings us back to "Is there any "safe" sex?"
Yes. Masturbation.
"Is mutual okay?"
Only if you can be 100% certain the other person has not been exposed / infected.
"But, wait! I read / heard that my childhood smallpox vaccine will protect me from monkeypox. is that true?"
According to this article in the Charlotte Observer:
"CAN SMALLPOX VACCINES OFFER PROTECTION AGAINST MONKEYPOX? The short answer is yes. According to the CDC, monkeypox is closely related to the virus that causes smallpox. Both the CDC and the WHO have published data showing that the smallpox vaccine is 85% effective in preventing monkeypox infection."
According to this Fox43 report:
"No, the chickenpox vaccine, or a previous chickenpox infection, does not protect you from monkeypox. Monkeypox and chickenpox are different diseases caused by different types of viruses, a CDC spokesperson told VERIFY. Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus, which is part of the same family of viruses as the one that causes smallpox. Chickenpox, on the other hand, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the virus that also causes shingles."
Bottom line: Call your doctor to see if any vaccine is available in your area. If it is: Get vaccinated!
Educate yourself.
Even if you are vaccinated - be cautious.
