The More You Know |
Here we go again. Sheesh. No, Monkeypox is NOT a "gay disease."
"Then why are people saying it is, why is is more prevalent among "men who have sex with men"?"
Simple answer: Men are more sexually active. Single gay and bi men are more sexually active.
This brings us back to "Is there any "safe" sex?"
Yes. Masturbation.
"Is mutual okay?"
Only if you can be 100% certain the other person has not been exposed / infected.
"But, wait! I read / heard that my childhood smallpox vaccine will protect me from monkeypox. is that true?"
According to this article in the Charlotte Observer:
"CAN SMALLPOX VACCINES OFFER PROTECTION AGAINST MONKEYPOX? The short answer is yes. According to the CDC, monkeypox is closely related to the virus that causes smallpox. Both the CDC and the WHO have published data showing that the smallpox vaccine is 85% effective in preventing monkeypox infection."
According to this Fox43 report:
"No, the chickenpox vaccine, or a previous chickenpox infection, does not protect you from monkeypox. Monkeypox and chickenpox are different diseases caused by different types of viruses, a CDC spokesperson told VERIFY. Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus, which is part of the same family of viruses as the one that causes smallpox. Chickenpox, on the other hand, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the virus that also causes shingles."
Bottom line: Call your doctor to see if any vaccine is available in your area. If it is: Get vaccinated!
Educate yourself.
Even if you are vaccinated - be cautious.

It deserved to be said, and I will take advantage of the weekend to deepen the subject. On the other hand, I already know that it's starting to cause a little too many viruses that are flowing in without having been invited.
What is certain is that Monkeypox is no more a "gay disease" than AIDS was, as was long believed.
Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.
Have a great weekend.
Right.
The slut-shaming has also started, along with the gay panic. Gay men do tend to have more sex (it's readily available, duh) than straight men, so there's that. It's not a sexually transmitted disease, though. And that's what people forget. People can get Monkeypox without having sex.
XOXO
Thanks for the info. Having lived through HIV, ALL sexually active adults need to be knowledgeable.
Hugs and bisous.
Seems there is always something of a new diease from keeping us from enjoying cock and sex!!!!! I was worried myself about monkey pox after the threesome I had this weekend...even though I got vaccinated for monkey pox.
And my condolences on the wingnut from the Oath Keepers who won in your state for Secretary of State was it? That sucks.
Thanks for being so thorough in researching the information you provide, and presenting it in such a entertaining manner. Hope you're able to relax after all of the cleanup.
Sometimes you post some absolute bullshit. This is one of those times!
i never had sex with men but i love seeing men naked, maybe im gay or bi, i dont know, but yeah, men always thinking about sex, all of these pics are turning me on so hard
Remembering having chickenpox. The fevers. The fever dreams: What's gravity again? (My dreams had gravity, but it seemed to be flighty and go in any direction it damn well pleased.)
The pox itself. Between the pox and the fever, I spent the disease naked with only oversize A-shirts to wear when I was getting food or drinks.
I just made this same point over at Sixpence's place. Yep... we gays. We love to have our sex... sex, sex, sex... nothing wrong with it, but it's an activity that requires a lot of maintenance and responsibility. Get tested regularly for all STIs. Take risks? Then take precautions. Play smart. And take care of your health. Kizzes.
Studies suggest that most gay and bi men are actually not at all promiscuous, and many have about as much as or significantly less than the average heterosexual man. The same studies suggest that it is only a tiny number of gay and bi men who have lots of sex with lots of men, and it is men like that who are vectors.
Its 'greater prevalence' among gay and bi men only reflects those who have been tested for the virus, not necessarily its prevalence among the population as a whole. the fact that gay and bi men get tested more frequently due to sensitisation to this kind of thing is a contributing factor to it seeming more prevalent among men who have sex with men.
Be careful of that semen getting on you!
@ Unapologetic Fox - Any time you disagree or believe I'm posting bullshit, feel free to give better information in your comment. That is why this blog exists - for conversations that can help other folks.
@ Edvard - Correct! The numbers reflect those who have appeared in ERs and doctor's offices where sexual orientation is asked about and admitted.
Another factor with AIDS is anal. So, if you don't exchange body fluids, you're safe. This means all circle jerks, jandiobs, frot, dry humping, and interfemoral are fine.
Oral is more risky. Sex classic, penis in vagina, is riskier than oral, about ten times so. Then we get to anal, which is riskier still, twelve times as risky as oral for the top and fifty times as risky as oral for the bottom.
I would be careful with the idea that the sample is biased. Like, when AIDS was still GRID and no one knew about HIV, it was still more gay men having flu-like symptoms and wasting syndrome.
For my part, my favorite AIDS myth is teenagers are more at risk. Most teenagers have had 0-1 partners outside of maybe the boys having a circle jerk, and if someone older gave them the virus, that's a crime. (The sex, I mean.) But you know, hormone-addled teenager trope.
@ Maddie - Yeah, the Rep nominee for Atty Gen is an Oath Keeper, and their nominee for Senate is an election denier and wants to enact countrywide abortion ban (along with other bans, of course) --- he's another one who's own family says "don't vote for him!!!!"
FFS, even if I have the common cold, I can give that to my gay boyfriend. That doesn't make it the "gay cold" WTF, people. Anyone intimate passes stuff to other people, gay or straight! Wake up,-- grow up!!!
Human beings have become so complacent about infectious diseases because we managed to almost eradicate some and there haven't been that many outbreaks recently, however parasitic infections have developed along with humanity because we are good hosts with all that intimate contact.
Perhaps if nature had made sexual reproduction easier, so it took just one insemination to do it, and not particularly pleasurable, there would need to be far less intimate contact to continue the species, but that's not how nature rolled, thank god.
