Daily Prostate Help

BPH - Benign Prostate Hyperplasia - commonly known as an Enlarged Prostate. As we age, the adage goes that the prostate continues to grow. The result is that we guys have a difficult time fully emptying out the bladder when we pee. Sometimes called an "old man's syndrome," the result is needing to piss often, waking up numerous times during the night.

As I've posted over the past (almost) 12 years, there are medications to help. Things such as Proscar, which reduces the swelling and allows for better flow. Beyond that, the other options are various medical procedures; four of which we've tackled over the past six months or so.

But, as Upton asked in his comment on yesterday's post:
"...It would seem to me that there must be a way of restoring and maintaining a healthy prostate. I know diet and exercise are a part of the regimen. I wonder what else can be done - on a daily basis, at home."

According to the article "Crucial Advice to Help Reduce the Risk of BPH" at Urology Care Foundation, there are a few things.

"Heart healthy = Prsotate Healthy. ... Keep normal blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol level along with a heathy weight and waist size. Alcohol in moderation has been associated with a lower risk of BPH and in excess could reduce the efficacy of BPH drug therapy. Make sure to work up a sweat. Exercise on a regular basis to prevent BPH or reduce the growth of it, is to exercise regularly. Try to exercise at least 30-minutes per day."

There are all kinds of supplements out there touting help. Talk to your doctor before starting on any of them. Things like DHEA and Zinc have shown no evidence of effectiveness. In fact, "DHEA may increase the size of the prostate."

And, according to American Urology Association's AUA Journal, "Our findings suggest that ejaculation frequency is related to a decreased risk of BPH/LUTS (Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)  as well as prostate cancer."

So, for daily help to maintain a healthy prostate and reduce the risk of BPH and prostate cancer eat well, exercise, and cum.

Excellent advice, especially the last suggestion.

Hahaha
Exercise, eating well and cumming? Yes, please!
Also, it's not really an old man's illness. Men in their forties can easily have BPH just because. It's scary.

XOXO

Interesting, even if rightly or wrongly I don't feel concerned. So, see you in (almost) twelve years.

Hugs and bisous, my darlings Jean and Pat.
Have a great day.

My personal journey with incontinence started with prostate cancer several years ago and peaked after my successful cyber-knife radiation treatment 18 months ago. Urologist told me that multiple nocturnal peeing was evidence that my bladder valve was irritated by too much acid in my diet (OJ, seltzer, tomatoes, etc) and U've worked to reduce it. My biggest problem was a 2.5 hour car trip twice a week - finding intermediate pee stops! Based on this post I suspect that my prostate was also irritated by the cancer and the radiation and it's taken more than a year to get better. Hope so - would love to get back to Lasagne!

Yay! Thank you for addressing my question. Well done. Caffeine. They say to avoid it as much as possible. It is my personal poison of choice. Sigh.

@ Upton - Caffeine is mine, too. Coffee and tea. There are some things I simply refuse to give up. Kisses.
