Hypothesized

Good morning.

"I've noticed a phenomenon that I'm curious about. It's pretty common in gay porn. In fact, it happens to me and some of the male sexual partners I've had. On approaching the point of climax, men seem to blurt out curse words. Something along the lines of "Oh f***, oh sh**, I'm coming!" Or maybe a string of f-words. Seems most common when giving a bit of warning of impending ejaculation to a partner.

Im no prude but I rarely use curse words generally, so this is kind of off the wall for me when I hear myself doing it.

Is it as common among men as I think it is?

Is it mainly from men, or do women curse at climax too? (My experience is limited here.)

Is it related to some cerebral process related to orgasm, connecting the brain and the dick or prostate? I'm thinking how people with Tourettes Syndrome have uncontrolled cursing at times, triggered by something that happens in the brain. Is there a medical explanation for this?

Just curious to hear from you and fellow readers about this."

I'm sure moans of pleasure, maybe a "yeah, that feels good," or some other such encouragement for a partner. Even "fuck" and a gasp as the ejaculation hits. Vocalizing, I think, is normal. But the porn industry takes it to another level. Personally, I find their voice-over moaning and heavy breathing and "oh, yeah, oh, fuck," etc. so over the top it makes me laugh.

I couldn't find any medical or psychologist explanation. But, someone on Quora hypothesized:

"The hypothalamus is what's releasing the endorphins during sex and this is also the part of the brain where the urge to curse resides."

What say you, Readers?

Curse words, No and no. Shouting and screaming, no and no again. I think part of it is at least sometime in your life, you have to be mindful of your neighbors or roommates, and the golden rule seems to prevail. Have a good weekend and if you’re in the eclipse path make sure you’ve got your correct glasses. Hugs and bisous.

Most over-the-top intense sensations generally trigger vocalisation of some sort, like accidentally hitting your thumb with a hammer. I do not know why this happens, it just does, but I could surmise it is some form of communication to others that is difficult to express in other ways.

Consequently, it does not surprise me that many men experience such an intense sensation during orgasm that they vocalise. What does interest me is that not all men vocalise, which leads me to wonder whether vocalisation is not universal, perhaps because of suppression due to societal attitudes about such things, or whether some men are not experiencing as intense an orgasm as others but do not realise it, because there is no way to objectively compare such internal subjective responses.

Pain is another area where it is difficult to convey objective levels, although it does have more points of comparison in common events such as needle-sticks, pinches, grazes, bee stings, etc that people can relate to that are likely similar experiences between people. Yet here also we often see vocalisation for intense pain. There's a fine line between pleasure and pain.

Commercial porn is not a suitable form of evidence formation as it is so contrived, however amateur porn can be much closer to the actual experience and, although frowned upon for privacy reasons, hidden camera porn even closer to lived experience because of less contrivance.

I do not know what the experience generally is for women, although from what porn I have seen, it appears to be less "aggressive" vocalisation or an attempt to suppress vocalisation.

It reminds me of a line in the movie "A League of Their Own" where the character played by Tom Hanks is leading a prayer with (paraphrased): "Lord thank you for that diner waitress from last week, you know, the one who kept calling out your name".

Alternatively, orgasm is also called "the little death" so it is conceivable vocalisation may also be an anticipatory expression of fear, as would intense pain, over entering an unknown world of consequence. However, this doesn't hold up when you consider people go through "the little death" many times and so know what that consequence is.

Anyway, just some speculation on my part.

When I watch porn I usually turn off the sound because it is so disconcerting. I've jacked off many hundreds of other men at the end of erotic massages and I can't remember a single time when vocalizations have been swear words. Occasionally there will be moans or an "I'm coming" warning. I don't vocalize myself either. So I tend to think that it's mostly acting, coached by porn directors.

some get excited by swearing. Others get excited by being dominated, and therefore by receiving curses. That's all, I think.

@SickoRicko - ROFL!!!!

I usually wonder if it's the sex or just the Tourettes returning.

After 25 years, on the extremely rare occurrences that my husband I bump into each other in bed, he's learned to turn his volume down. There was a time when he had to sound like a Falcon video on replay.
