Mardi Gras 2022

It's Fat Tuesday. After a two-year hiatus.

Mardi Gras is back.

In the meantime, we have a series of questions reader Fabricio would like us to ponder regarding stereotypes. here's the first:

"Why can women wear blue but men can't wear pink?"

My guess on that the whole Pink thing goes back to the colors historically used in gender announcements for newborns, where Blue indicated a boy and Pink indicated a girl. I personally have known quite a few straight men who wear pink.

Readers, what's your take?

Does Fabricio think that if men can't wear pink the clothing industry would make pink clothes for men?
That it is with or without the mention "Sorry fellas, I'm straight."

Hugs and bisous, my darlings chéris Jean and Pat.

Love pink! Wear it whenever I can.
And I've never been to Mardi Gras. Been to NOLA but never during the carnival.
Would not mind giving out beads...

XOXO

@ Jeff - I think many men wear pink. They may get teased but they do it.

On the Carol Burnett show during one Q&A session she called on a man with a 'pink' shirt. He was quick to point out that it was skinny red and white stripes.

As far as why pink and blue, I agree they're the colors on birth announcements, but where did -they- get the colors? Why not yellow and green? Yellow and green -are- the colors you use to decorate the infant's room when you didn't 'peek' to see what you were getting!

I can't think of any nursery rhymes that associate colors with one sex or the other.

Hey, someone throw me some beads! LOL!

I think a man who is fashion forward and confident with who he is can pull off pink. I don't think pink is a great color on me, but I am not opposed to it.

I came across this YouTube vid a couple months ago that explains this. Very interesting worth the watch:

I can't see any valid reason why a man could not / should not wear any color of his liking, including pink, whatever their style. Even if it's not a color that particularly fancy I have a couple of pink shirts which I can either wear with a suit and tie or a pair of jeans and sneakers: never felt a tad sissy for it and never been weirdly looked at either, on the contrary.
Fabricio: if someone told you that men cannot wear pink but you like the color, just prove them wrong. Even if it's just with a pair of socks :-)

honestly i prefer pink and orange to red. I believe, however, that it is a matter of taste.

Just looking at the men's fashions in shops, ALL Colors are now being used for men! Same for violet, orange, rose, you see these colors because they are selling!. Even Nike running shoes are hot pink!
I saw a guy last summer wearing a hot pink tie-dye shorts, looked great.
Men like pink just like women like blue. Hugs and bisous.

Mardi Gras! Too soon for me... but more power to those brave enough to get out there. Love the pics. As for the whole pink thing? Since when do men NOT where pink? Personally, not my favorite color and not one I wear, but I see men wear it all the time. Whatever phobia you have or whatever idea you have in your head about pink? That's on you. Like airline food, everybody else got over it a long time ago.

It is interesting to note that throughout the 18th and 19th centuries pink was a boys’ color and blue was a girls’ color. Advertising from 1918 still identified this trend, but by 1927 the colors had reversed. Pink was considered a boys’ color as it is dilute red, which has been considered a masculine color since Roman days, while the color blue has been strongly associated with the Virgin Mary for over 1500 years, so is a feminine color. Just some interesting trivia to throw out there.
